purpose To manage computer operations infrastructure, server, networking, desktop and database administration of integrated system staff management, architecture and strategy.
experience and qualifications
  • Bachelors in Information Systems or Computer Science Core or Software Service Technician MCSE, CCIE, MS SQL+, RHCE or RHCA
  • 5 – 7 years

  • additional requirements
    • Manage a 24X7X365 operations centre by ensuring the efficient reporting and escalation of outages until resolution.
    • Managing the monitoring and management of the mainframe, network and midrange infrastructure and midrange batch schedules per SLA.
    • Managing the monitoring and management of customer facing applications and infrastructure.
    • Managing all communication during a service outage.
    • Monitoring of infrastructure and release change schedules.
    • Manage communication with industry service providers and associations.
    • Ensure that processes and procedures are adhered to.
    • Manage the training and development of staff.
    • Manage subordinate staff resources to ensure effective delivery of operational responsibilities. Preference will be given to candidates with:
    • Matric certificate with Maths, or Advanced National Certificate / Diploma, or NQF Level 5 or 6.
    • Valid driver’s licence and own transport.
    • Ten or more successive years’ experience in a Data Centre environment.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of the operational processes in Data Centre inclusive of the batch and online environments.
    • Exposure to large data centre environments with involving multiple technologies and applications i.e. VM, Storage, Network, Mainframe, applications, etc.
    • Management of batch schedules on mainframe and midrange platforms via Control M and ECS.
    • PC literacy (MS Office products).
    • Service Desk / ITIL knowledge.
    • Good communication and reporting skills.
    • Ability to manage crises situations.
    • Customer focused and service orientated.
    • Planning, organizing and time management skills.
    • Ability to lead, coach and motivate sub-ordinates.
    • Exercise competent problem solving and decision making.

    responsibilities
    • Drive business profitability in the context of cost management through Information technology solutions
    • Establish, align and manage target and budget goals whilst ensuring effective control of costs for a range of functional areas to increase cost efficiency
    • Influence, encourage and manage the cost-effective use of systems and facilities
    • Develop a IT service culture which builds rewarding relationships, proposes innovations and allows others to provide exceptional client service
    • Cultivate and manage objective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including end-users, SME’s, project managers and senior staff members by providing input to business requirements
    • Operationally manage, monitor, alert and escalate for a number of diverse platforms which include , Mid-range, Personal Computers, Networks, Helpdesk and Enterprise Management.
    • Comply, understand and implement all steps within IT development and meet governance in terms of legislative and audit requirements
    • Ensure all the required hardware and software contracts and SLA are up to date and all metrics are met
    • Production environment Support and Automation, for their respective support teams (Technical and Development)
    • Support all incidence and problem management when necessary
    • Manage own development to increase own competencies
    • Facilitate the conversion of knowledge management and ideas into new or improved processes and services.
    • Plan and manage performance, skills development, employment equity, talent and culture of team in order to improve innovation, achieve efficiencies and increase competencies
